Empower + Thrive

Self Defence workshops for Women

Word art with the words "empower" and "thrive" in bold, black and pink text, along with smaller purple text that says "self defense."

These workshops are about so much more than self-defence. They're about helping women feel confident taking up space, speaking up when something doesn't feel right, and responding calmly and effectively in challenging situations. The skills we cover can be just as valuable in a meeting room, networking event, or difficult conversation as they are walking to your car after work.

Everything is delivered in a supportive, welcoming, and judgement-free environment. No intimidating drills, no pressure, and no previous experience needed—just practical techniques, real-life strategies, and plenty of encouragement.

The goal is simple: to help women feel more confident, capable, and prepared, while building resilience, self-belief, and skills they can carry into every area of their lives.

If your organisation is committed to creating a workplace where people feel safer, more supported, and genuinely confident to show up as themselves, these sessions can make a real difference. And while participants leave with practical self-defence skills, the impact goes much further. The workshops encourage stronger communication, healthier boundaries, greater self-trust, and a culture where people feel empowered to support one another.

When women feel empowered and safe, the ripple effect reaches every corner of the workplace, and that benefits everyone.

Workplace Wellbeing With Real Impact

My self-defence workshops are designed to give women practical skills, greater confidence, and a real sense of empowerment. They're perfect for workplaces, wellbeing events, conferences, leadership programmes, and organisations that genuinely care about supporting their people.

Designed specifically for women, these sessions teach practical self-defence techniques such as palm strikes, groin kicks, breakaway methods, and how to create space and get to safety.

Alongside the physical skills, delegates learn how to use their voice with confidence, set clear boundaries, trust their instincts, and become more aware of what's happening around them.

Because self-defence starts long before physical confrontation.

Perfect for corporate wellbeing days, leadership programmes, women’s networks, HR wellbeing initiatives, conferences, community organisations, schools, and youth groups.

The Workshops

I offer flexible self-defence workshops created exclusively for women, designed to support organisations, wellbeing programmes, team events, and community initiatives. Whether you're looking for a short, impactful session or a more in-depth training experience, each workshop can be tailored to suit your audience, objectives, and event style.

These workshops are designed to help women feel more confident, aware, and empowered in both the workplace and everyday life, while providing a supportive, welcoming, and engaging environment.

Every session combines practical self-defence training with personal safety education, real-life discussion, and an energising warm-up to get everyone moving and comfortable. Participants don't just talk about safety — they actively learn and practise simple, effective physical self-defence techniques that can be used in real-world situations.

Depending on the workshop length, participants will learn practical skills such as palm strikes, groin kicks, breakaway techniques, creating distance from an attacker and using their voice effectively. All techniques are designed to be simple, realistic, and easy to remember.

I offer 2, 4, and 6-hour workshop options, with the level of practical self-defence training increasing as the session length extends. Shorter workshops focus on core personal safety skills and essential techniques, while longer sessions allow for more in-depth, hands-on training and practice.

In the extended workshops, we build on the fundamentals to include more advanced, real-world self-defence skills such as floor work, clothing grabs, hair pulls, and choke releases, alongside plenty of time for repetition and confidence-building.

Alongside these options, I also offer specialist sessions such as conference energisers and bespoke workshops tailored specifically to your audience or event.

What participants learn

Participants will gain practical knowledge and hands-on experience in:

  • Personal safety and situational awareness

  • Boundary setting and verbal confidence

  • De-escalation techniques and responding under pressure

  • Building resilience and self-trust

  • Staying calm and focused in challenging situations

  • Physical self-defence skills, including strikes, kicks, breakaway techniques, and creating opportunities to escape safely

The focus is always on providing practical, realistic tools that help participants feel more confident, capable, and prepared should they ever need them.

These sessions are suitable for a wide range of events and audiences. If you're looking for something more bespoke, I can create a tailored workshop designed specifically around your goals, audience, and event requirements.

Specialist Sessions

Alongside my standard workshops, I also offer a selection of specialist sessions tailored to different audiences, needs, and event styles — from fun, high-energy experiences to more focused, supportive workshops.

Palm Strikes & Prosecco

A networking event with a difference. The session kicks off with an hour of fun, practical self-defence training where delegates learn simple, effective skills such as palm strikes, blocking and deflecting strikes, and easy-to-remember self-protection techniques designed to build confidence and awareness.

We then switch things up with a relaxed glass of prosecco and time to unwind, connect, and network in a friendly, sociable atmosphere.

Perfect for networking groups, women in business communities, corporate socials, and team-building events.

Conference Energiser Sessions

Short, high-energy sessions designed to get your audience moving, switched on, and fully engaged. Sessions include a quick physical and voice warm-up, followed by 3–4 practical self-defence techniques such as palm strikes, basic blocking, and simple self-protection skills that help build confidence and awareness.

These fun, interactive bursts of energy are a great way to break up long conference days, refocus attention, and boost delegate involvement in a memorable and empowering way.

Perfect for: Event organisers, conferences, leadership events, wellbeing days, and corporate retreats.

Teenage Girls & Young Women Workshops

Supportive, empowering sessions created specifically for teenage girls and young women, focusing on confidence, self-esteem, personal safety, and resilience.

Alongside honest, open conversations, participants learn practical self-defence skills such as simple strikes, blocking, creating distance, and using their voice with confidence in challenging situations. Everything is delivered in a safe, age-appropriate, and supportive way that helps build real-world awareness and personal boundaries.

These sessions can also contribute to wider social value goals, including supporting organisations working in line with the UK Government’s PPN 002 Social Value Model, particularly around wellbeing, confidence-building, and positive outcomes for young people.

Perfect for: Schools, colleges, youth organisations, community groups, sports clubs, and wellbeing programmes.

Domestic Violence Awareness & Safety Sessions

For women for whom home is not a safe space, these workshops provide a carefully held, supportive environment to talk and explore practical strategies to help create distance from harm when needed.

Alongside gentle discussion, participants are also introduced to simple, practical self-defence skills.

These sessions can also contribute to wider social value goals, including supporting organisations working in line with the UK Government’s PPN 002 Social Value Model, particularly around wellbeing, confidence-building, and positive outcomes for women and young people.

Meet Your Instructor

Hello! I’m Jules

I know what you’re thinking …  I don’t look like your average self-defence instructor.

I’m not super muscly, I can count the amount of gym kit I have on one hand, and I don’t look particularly intimidating (even if I do my best Roy Kent snarl).

I’m a 40-something mum who believes self-defence should be accessible, realistic, and something every woman and girl can benefit from — because everyone deserves to feel safe, confident, and empowered in their everyday life.

And that’s exactly what these workshops are about.

I teach practical skills that are designed with real women and real-life situations in mind.

  • No fitness level required

  • No martial arts background needed

  • No pressure to “fight”

My approach goes beyond physical techniques, focusing just as much on building confidence, awareness, communication skills, and helping women feel more capable and prepared in everyday situations.

My training

I hold the Strike Back Self Defence Level 1 Instructor Qualification, which has given me the skills and knowledge to deliver practical, empowering self-defence training in a way that feels safe, supportive, and accessible.

Alongside this, I hold an Emergency First Aid at Work certificate and an Enhanced DBS check.
